The confession

For which cause also I suffer these things; but I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep for that day the deposit I have entrusted to him.

2 Timothy 1:12

I hold no creed but the Word of God, and I set nothing beside it. What follows is not a creed above the Scriptures but a confession beneath them: the things I have searched out in the Word, weighed before the Lord, and am fully persuaded of.

I have written plainly, because the faith was once delivered to the saints, and it is not mine to soften. I have written gladly, because every line of it leads to a Person, the Lord Jesus Christ. Doctrine is not a cold thing to me. It is the shape of His glory, and the ground under my feet.

for the Lord himself, with an assembling shout, with archangel's voice and with trump of God, shall descend from heaven; and the dead in Christ shall rise first; then we, the living who remain, shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air; and thus we shall be always with the Lord.

The Lord Jesus may come for His own at any moment. No sign must come first, and no event stands between the assembly and the shout. After that, the tribulation, the appearing in glory, and the kingdom.

What I believe about things to come

From the cross to the eternal state

On earth: the cross, then Pentecost, then the present period of grace in which the assembly is gathered out. The Lord comes to the air and the assembly is caught up to heaven, where the judgment-seat of Christ and the marriage of the Lamb take place. Meanwhile on earth runs the tribulation, the seventieth week of Daniel, seven years, broken in the midst. Then the Lord appears with His saints, and reigns on the earth a thousand years. Satan is loosed for a little time, the great white throne follows, and then the eternal state: new heavens and a new earth.
